Below is a list of committees established by the State Lodge of Michigan along with a brief description of each committee.   

Each committee meets as needed and committee members are expected to actively participate.  The chairperson of each committee, or his/her designee, shall report at each State Conference and Mid-Year Board Meeting. Committees may meet in person, via phone conference, or email, unless otherwise noted.

This committee serves as the liaison between the State Lodge and the Special Olympics as it pertains to the Law Enforcement Torch Run and the Polar Plunge.  Committee meets as needed.   Committee can meet and via phone conference, or e-mail. 

This committee serves as the audit committee for the Local Lodges to ensure that they are adhering to the operational rules.   This committee meets as needed.  Committee can meet and via phone conference, or e-mail. 

It is the responsibility of the Conference Site Committee to fully investigate the ability of each bidder's ability to properly house the delegation, conduct the business of the State Conference, and provide the expected amenities for the delegates.  Committee members should be expected to visit each location prior to making the recommendation to the board of trustees. 

The Constitution and Bylaws Committee shall review all proposed amendments for form, substance, grammar and the proper placement within this Constitution and Bylaws.  The Constitution and Bylaws Committee shall consider the proposed amendment and report their findings and recommendations to the Delegates of the State Conference. This committee shall meet as needed prior to the State Conference.  Committee can meet and via phone conference, or e-mail. 

Negotiates compensation contract with the Executive Director as well as any employees of the State Lodge.    This committee shall meet as needed. Committee can meet and via phone conference, or e-mail. 

Meets prior to the State Conference and reviews all submissions in order to select the State Lodge of Michigan Herb Adams Member of the Year. Committee can meet and discuss selections via phone conference, or e-mail. 

Responsible for meeting with lobbyists and members of the legislature and make recommendations to the Executive Board on political endorsements.  Typically meets monthly, however, during busy political times, may require frequent phone and email communications.   Committee members should be expected to appear in Lansing at least once quarterly, sometimes with little notice.

Serves as liaison between Mi-COPS and the Michigan Fraternal Order of Police.  This liaison shall meet with Mi-COPS frequently at various locations throughout the state.

Meets prior to the State Conference and reviews all submissions in order to select the State Lodge of Michigan Peace Officer of the Year.  Committee can meet and discuss selections via phone conference, or e-mail. 

The primary function of this committee shall be to the coordinate the State Lodge Golf Outing.  Members should expect to work on recruiting golfers, hole sponsors, prizes and donations for this event.  Members should also be responsible for organizing any social events as requested by the State Lodge Executive Board. 

This committee is responsible for preserving the history of the State Lodge.  This includes coordinating any future history publications.

This committee meets to discuss issues pertaining to law enforcement training, certification and/or education.  This committee is responsible for researching new training issues.  This committee meets as needed.  Committee can meet via phone conference, or e-mail. 

Responsible for the State Lodge Raffle including setting the prize amounts each year.  The Ways and Means Committee is responsible developing programs to assist in funding the State Lodge. The State Lodge currently utilizes a number of fund raising mechanisms. Those mechanisms are Per Capita Tax, State Lodge Raffle and State Lodge Telephone Solicitation Program.

This committee replaced the former Essay Contest Committee in 2015-16.  This committee is responsible for the creation and implementation of programs that benefit youth in the State of Michigan.  This may include programs such as backpacks for kids, or student heart checks.
